Wayfinding Project

The act of wayfinding is the process of ascertaining your whereabouts in order to formulate a path forward. The Wayfinding Project is meant to survey the landscape of radical prevention and meet the movement exactly where—and as—it is. With a growing “map,” the project focuses on nurturing learning relationships with various communities and highlighting CSA prevention that goes beyond reaction, separation, and punishment. The Wayfinding Project is an alternative to curricula and toolkits, seeking to advance practices that arise from a core set of principles and explorations.

Goals

Connect with individuals and groups across the country who are in various stages of preventing CSA without systems (such as child welfare, prisons, and criminal justice)

Design non-extractive methods of listening and learning from them about their strategies, challenges, and desired resources

Offer technical and practical guidance when and where they ask for it

Help create the conditions, space, and time for them to advance practices

Collect their stories and wisdom to share within and across movements; proliferate new approaches to shift our mental models of prevention

Why Wayfinding at JBC?

As an intermediary actively challenging the ways philanthropy supports and addresses CSA, JBC is committed to letting movement organizers take the lead. We want to honor and follow their direction, and we want other funders to do the same. A more equitable grantor/grantee relationship is a necessary condition for shifting the narrative around what it takes to resource and amplify true CSA prevention. And the Wayfinding Project exemplifies how we can shift this narrative while building a powerful prevention movement.

The Wayfinding Project is a necessary programmatic initiative—run by and for communities—that will contribute to significant transformation and deep funder learning.
