Executive Director Search: Letter from the Steering Committee

Dear Colleague,

The Just Beginnings Collaborative (JBC) is a community of funders and thought leaders that works to support the development of a vibrant, inclusive and impactful national movement to end child sexual abuse and we need your help.

As individuals and organizations who care about ending child sexual abuse, we are inviting you to help us find a bold, principled and visionary Executive Director or a Co-Director Team to lead JBC’s efforts in the coming years.

We recognize that ending child sexual abuse is a critical gap in the broader collective work to end violence that is taking place across the country and gaining prominence. JBC believes that by addressing child sexual abuse we are addressing violence in our society at its very roots.

Over the last four years, JBC has begun to create a strategic home for funders who care about child sexual abuse and want to achieve greater impact working together. We have invested $10.8 million to strengthen and sustain our first cohort of social justice organizations and individual fellows who are actively creating culturally responsive intervention and prevention strategies at the intersections of race, class, gender and gender identity, sexual orientation, religion, and ability. They are activists and organizers, thinkers and healers, cultural workers and teachers, community elders and youth advocates, faith leaders and storytellers. Their work holds great promise for replicable strategies and survivor-centered responses to end child sexual abuse.

Working together, we envision a movement to end child sexual abuse that centers the work of survivor-leaders, promotes trauma-informed interventions and healing, advances dialogue, deeply grounded in feminism and racial justice, and adapts knowledge and strategies from relevant parallel social change movements.

To lead this effort, we are seeking an authentic, inclusive, and inspiring leader or team. JBC’s next Executive Director or Co-Directors will be called upon to support the efforts of diverse advocates, practitioners, and scholars within the social welfare system, social justice sector, education system, philanthropic sector, and other spheres.

Our new leadership will guide JBC through a process to reimagine and rebrand its work, build a cohesive staff team from the ground up, motivate allies in the philanthropic sector to join the movement, and — working in tandem with the Steering Committee — leverage substantially increased resources to advance the mission.
