Just Beginnings Collaborative (JBC) grew out of a groundbreaking multi-year partnership between the NoVo Foundation and the Ms. Foundation for Women (from 2009-2014) that helped to establish a national network of leaders and organizations working to end child sexual abuse (CSA). Building on this foundation, JBC launched in 2015 as an independent project funded by the NoVo Foundation designed to achieve a new level of visibility and impact. In 2015 we funded our first cohort of fellows and organizations transforming the field. In early 2020, JBC welcomed Nicole Pittman as Executive Director shortly before the COVID-19 pandemic. As our world grapples with events related to public health, the economy, and society, more conversations about interpersonal and sexual violence are occurring. JBC wants to ensure that experiences of vulnerable children—so often invisible—are part of those conversations. We continue to embrace a systemic approach and move upstream from healing and interrupting child sexual abuse to preventing it because we see CSA as a nexus for understanding cycles of oppression and violence writ large.
JBC operates under the fiscal sponsorship of Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors.
